The ACTion Now's

  • act The Adult Community Transition (ACT) program became a certified ASD Green School in October 2018. ACT has been actively collecting plastic and aluminum at their school in efforts to complement their vending machine fundraising program. ACT works closely with the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority and will continue to work together towards a sustainable building and program. The students at ACT, with the help of teachers, aid the school district and other entities in their recycling efforts by collecting paper at various locations in the district - Thank you ACT!

About Green Team

  • Green Team Name:  ACTion Now
Team Members: ACT Students and Teachers
    Sponsor: Nikki Morris

  • We recycle mixed paper, bottles and cans. We also collect recycling from the business office within our building. We have several job sites that involve recycling to include, UAA, Senior Center & Mental Health Trust.

Sustainability Plan and Goals

  • At ACT we plan to collect our recycling in a scheduled manner, increase recycling awareness in our building, and increase our efforts to recycle packaging from our Children's Lunch Box program. We will do so by:

    • Setting a recycling pickup day, a material sorting team, and develop a delivery plan for recyclables to the recycling center.
    • Work with the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority to set-up a paper recycling dumpster at our school.
    • Host a recycled art contest to promote recycling and raise awareness toward recycling and waste reduction.
    • Record recycling amounts data to keep track and monitor our rates and share our success.
